In 2003 the University of Louisville engaged the services of Human Development Company (HDC) for employee assistance services. As part of their array of services, they offered conflict resolution training and conflict resolution services. These services have been well received by the work units that have used them.
The University's information technology division engaged HDC to present a series of training and coaching sessions centered on Emotional Intelligence. As part of that process, protocols were developed by that team to assist them when they are in conflict. As a result of this training and coaching by HDC, team conflicts are down and productivity is up.
My own department, Human Resources, has also received training and individual coaching on emotional intelligence. As a result of the training, my team was better able to cope with the stress of a long overdue reorganization of our department. Additionally, our leadership team is more cohesive and working together on issues as never before. We could have accomplished this were it not for the timely work of HDC.
I cannot say enough good things about HDC or their training and coaching. I consider them an integral part of our team in support of the university's mission. As President of Duplicator Sales & Service and Derby City Lithographing with approximately 170 employees and 3 locations, I've discovered that the challenges that business brings naturally can be fun and exhilirating, and give you a great feeling of accomplishment.
On the other hand the employee issues, both personal and business, can be absolutely draining and strike at the very core of your operations. I can honestly say that one of the very best moves we ever made from a business standpoint was signing on with the Human Development Company.
Terry Mattingly and Jim Mahanes have helped us with so many programs, such as Process Management, which gives tools to management and employees alike on handling and resolving conflict. The most recent program they put on for us is on conducting effective disciplinary meetings. They are a great resource for our managers.
What I really appreciate about the Human Development Company with Terry and Jim is the fact that we now have a source of help for our employees. We can get overwhelmed in our world today with the pressures of our society, family, business, and addictions, which all affect our work environment every day. It's a great asset to have a place to offer our employees to go for the help that we all need from time to time. It is all handled in a very conscientious, professional, and confidential manner. They are a true partner that we can count on in our business.
As an owner, it is so nice to be able to get back to the fun challenges of running a business and yet to know our employees are being cared for. For this I will always be grateful to Jim, Terry and the Human Development Company.
